CNSTAT Congratulates Susan Murphy on Receiving the 2024 Mosteller Statistician of the Year Award
Susan A. Murphy, Mallinckrodt professor of statistics and of computer science and associate faculty at the Kempner Institute of Harvard University, is the recipient of the 2024 Mosteller Statistician of the Year Award from the Boston Chapter of the American Statistical Association. Her current research focuses on developing online reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms for use in digital health interventions for with such health problesm as substance misuse, hypertension, and bone marrow transplantation. In 2013 she was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship for her work on experimental designs to inform sequential decision making. She is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Medicine and served on CNSTAT from 2015–2017. She was a member of the CNSTAT panel that produced The Prevention and Treatment of Missing Data in Clinical Trials in 2010. She is a fellow of the College on Problems in Drug Dependence. She has a B.S. from Louisiana State University and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina.

CNSTAT Congratulates Sallie Ann Keller on Receiving the 2024 Links Lecture Award
Sallie Ann Keller is chief scientist and associate director of the U.S. Census Bureau’s Research and Methodology Directorate. She also holds an endowed distinguished professorship in biocomplexity and faculty appointments in the School of Medicine, Department of Public Health Services; School of Engineering and Applied Science, Department of Engineering Systems and Environment; and School of Data Science at the University of Virginia (UVA). Dr. Keller is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a current member of the National Academies Division Advisory Committee for the Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education. The lecture is anticipated to be held in October 2024.

CNSTAT Thanks Hubert Hamer for his 44 Years of Service to NASS
Hubert Hamer recently retired from the National Agricultural Statistics Service at USDA, where he had served as Administrator since 2016. Before becoming administrator, he served as director of the Statistics Division. Hamer has also served as executive director of the NASS Agricultural Statistics Board (ASB) and executive director of the Advisory Committee on Agriculture Statistics. He had previously served as chair of the ASB and served as
24 state field offices as well as the Training and Career Development Office. Since joining NASS, Hamer has served in a number of capacities in Washington, D.C. as well as the Louisiana, Illinois, and Missouri field offices. While directing the Missouri office, he completed USDA’s Senior Executive Candidate Development Program and was appointed to the Senior Executive Service in 2000. He is a graduate of Tennessee State University.
