Job Description

The CU Population Center (CUPC) at the University of Colorado Boulder is recruiting a postdoctoral associate with expertise in demographic and spatial analysis. This individual will help lead an NIH-funded project that studies place-based change in midlife mortality in the United States. The position is a two-year appointment, to start no later than January 1, 2025.

CUPC, housed in the Institute of Behavioral Science, is a national leader in demographic research on population health, environmental demography, reproductive health, and migration patterns and processes. This postdoctoral research position builds on CUPC’s strengths in population health and in spatial and environmental demography.

Candidates must have experience in demographic research and spatial data analysis, the use of computational, statistical and data scientific approaches for interdisciplinary research, and data integration involving spatial and non-spatial data. We expect candidates to have substantial experience with statistical analysis and data management in the R environment , Python, and Stata, as well as spatial analysis software. They are expected to bring particular interest in interdisciplinary research and to participate in and develop future
interdisciplinary projects.

Postdoctoral associates are expected to spend time working independently as well as collaboratively with CUPC faculty affiliates on large-scale research projects and grant proposals. Postdoctoral researchers will be resident within CUPC in the Institute of Behavioral Science, will coordinate and participate in relevant working groups, and regularly attend and present within the CUPC speaker series and other CUPC workshops and mentoring activities.

Qualifications for CUPC post-doctoral researchers:
• Doctoral degree in a relevant field, especially sociology, demography, geography, public health, or information science;
• Experience with demographic research, and with advanced methods of spatial analysis;
• Experience with statistical analysis software, especially R and Stata;
• Demonstrated publication and grant-writing skills;
• Team spirit and interest in interdisciplinary research settings.
