Request for Pilot Grant Proposals
Deadline: December 13, 2024
The Social, Behavioral, & Economic COVID Coordinating Center (SBE CCC) solicits applications for pilot projects for innovative measurement and study of social, behavioral, and economic indicators that are important correlates and consequences of the COVID pandemic. SBE CCC is funded by the National Institutes of Health. It is led by ICPSR in collaboration with the Program for Research on Black Americans (PRBA), Survey Research Center (SRC), and the Center for Health and Research Transformation (CHRT) at the University of Michigan. Proposals from early career investigators, involving new collaborations, and those building upon existing SBE CCC research (U01 or pilot grants) are encouraged.
Scope:
Of particular interest are proposals:
- Addressing COVID’s impact on health disparities and vulnerable populations, moving beyond simply documenting inequities and assessing the impact of policies and interventions that mitigate or exacerbate them
- Exploring the rollback of policies implemented during the pandemic and their impact on population health
- Investigating COVID’s impact on work and the workplace
- Assessing trust in the health system and implications for vaccination, disease prevention, service utilization, health literacy, and health outcomes
- Evaluating existing measures related to COVID-19 and their nuanced implications for research findings (e.g., how an index performs in different populations and what this might mean for policies based on such research)
- Developing/incorporating/increasing utilization of data standards for social, behavioral, and economic research associated with the COVID-19 pandemic
Award information:
SBE CCC anticipates funding up to 6 projects through a competitive process. Two award sizes are available: 1) Larger projects over $30,000 and up to $60,000 in total costs (direct + indirect),
2) Smaller projects up to $30,000 in total costs (direct + indirect). Applicants should clearly specify which size award they are applying for. Studies involving the use of human subjects
must be approved by an institutional review board prior to release of funds.
Who may apply:
Principal investigators (PIs) and co-PIs should be researchers who are eligible for federal grants and have not previously acted as PI or co-PI on a previous SBE CCC pilot grant. Co investigators and other personnel are not limited by these restrictions. Projects with multiple principal investigators may have up to two PIs. While not required, preference will be given to proposals that build on the research of current SBE CCC members, though they do not need to be part of the study team.
Important dates:
- December 13, 2024, 11:59pm (PST) : Full proposals due
- By January 31, 2025: Awards announced
- April 1, 2025 : Projects start
