The results of the 2024 presidential and congressional elections usher in a new era of uncertainty for not only our field, but also for the Federal scientific research and statistical agencies. We are committed to working with the new Administration and Congress to ensure they understand the critically important research and training population scientists conduct to not only advance the nation’s scientific enterprise, but also to improve the public’s health and wellbeing. Likewise, we will be communicating with you about the implications of changes that the new Administration and Congress may pursue.
Your engagement and participation in our government affairs activities is needed more than ever to inform Federal policymakers! To that end, we hope you will respond to action alerts and, most importantly, participate in the PAA 2025 Advocacy Day in Washington, DC.
On April 10, as part of the PAA 2025 Annual Meeting, we are sponsoring an Advocacy Day — a day in which population scientists (as private citizens and not as representatives of their institutions) will meet with select members of their congressional delegation. The purpose of these meetings will be to share examples of population research activities and advances and express support for the Federal government agencies that directly and indirectly support the population sciences, including the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, U.S. Census Bureau, and other statistical agencies.
Training and materials will be provided. You will need to be available in Washington, DC on Thursday, April 10 until approximately 3:00pm ET. If you are interested, please complete this interest form. This form is NOT registration. You will receive a separate notification once meeting registration is open.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to participate and make your voices heard. If you have any questions about Advocacy Day, please contact Mary Jo Mitchell, Director of Government and Public Affairs, at maryjo@popassoc.org.
