Michael Hout is professor of sociology at NYU and chair of the Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education (DBASSE) at the NAS. From 1985 to 2013, he was a faculty member at Berkeley in both sociology and demography and first chair of the joint program. Mike uses demographic methods to study non-demographic outcomes like college enrollment, ethnic identity and religious affiliation. In 2021 he published a paper in Public Opinion Quarterly (link) analyzing period and cohort trends of 283 variables in the General Social Survey.
